Senate Resolution Presented In Honor of Lexington Three’s Centennial Anniversary

On Tuesday, February 25th, Senator Katrina Shealy, an alumna of the Batesburg-Leesville school system, stood before her colleagues in the Senate Chamber at the South Carolina Statehouse and presented a resolution honoring Lexington County School District Three on its centennial birthday and congratulating Batesburg-Leesville High School’s one hundredth graduating class, which is the class of 2020.  Lexington Three Board of Trustees Chairperson Stacey Derrick was on hand for the presentation and graciously accepted the resolution on behalf of the Board of Trustees, administrators, staff and students of the district.

“Lexington Three is so appreciative of Senator Shealy taking the time to recognize the district in such a special and honorable way as we celebrate our centennial year. The framed resolution will proudly be displayed at the District Office as a reminder of all of the lives we’ve touched in the past 100 years and as a reminder of our commitment to exceptional education in the next 100 years. It’s truly a great time to be a Panther,” said Mrs. Derrick.

Lexington Three’s centennial celebrations continue to gain momentum as the district presses onward into spring.  On Saturday, March 14th, a district-wide performance of the musical The Wizard of Oz will be held at the Fine Arts Center, with shows scheduled for 1 pm and 7 pm. Tickets are free, but are required for admission and can be obtained at any of Lexington Three’s schools or the District Office through Thursday, March 12th.  After that date, if there are any tickets left, they will be available on a first come, first served basis at the doors of the Fine Arts Center on the day of the performances.

Also on March 14th at 3:30 pm in the Batesburg-Leesville High School gymnasium there will be a Birthday Celebration in honor of Lexington Three turning 100 years old. Community members are invited to attend and are encouraged to bring copies of old pictures they may have from their time in Lexington Three’s schools. (Participating guests should make sure that only copies of pictures are brought to the event as they will not be returned.) The pictures will be used by district administrators to create an historical collage.  In addition, guests at the celebration will be able to enjoy delicious cake, mingle with old classmates, meet the cast from The Wizard of Oz, and write messages to the current Batesburg-Leesville High School senior class.

The resolution from Sen. Shealy will also be on hand for viewing on March 14th at the district’s birthday party. Click here to view the full resolution online.
