New B-L Elementary School Class Business Helps Students Hone Skills

Students in Mrs. Stephanie Shealy’s class at Batesburg-Leesville Elementary School now have the opportunity to further develop life and social skills as well as hone what they learn academically in the classroom thanks to a new class business that is starting up this week.

The Special Grounds Coffee Company, which will operate weekly, offers coffee beverages for faculty and staff members to purchase.  The supplies that were needed to start-up the class business, including the cart, carafes, cups, sweeteners, creamers, stirrers, etc. were all donated by Tami Hartley Spencer and Samantha Spencer, the owners of Faith-Full Cafe in Leesville.

The coffee cart will operate every Friday morning, with students rotating jobs such as order taker, money collector, barista, and stocker.  Initially, only regular and decaffeinated coffee will be offered, but Mrs. Shealy hopes to eventually expand the business to include other drinks and food.

A special thanks goes out to Faith-Full Cafe for partnering with the school to get the business up and running and for donating all of the coffee cart items, including the first month’s supply of coffee.  In addition, Lexington Three is appreciative of iCrave Cafe and Economy Furniture for also graciously agreeing to each supply coffee for the class business. Donations are still being sought, however, from community members and local businesses.  Anyone who would like to provide ground coffee or monetary donations for the class business can contact the school at 532-1155.
