On Wednesday, March 13th, students and staff at all of the schools in Lexington County School District Three took part in a statewide tornado drill at 9 o’clock in the morning, joining schools across the Palmetto State as they observed Severe Weather and Flood Safety Week. The drill, which was jointly sponsored by the National Weather Service and the SC Emergency Management Division, was conducted in coordination with the SC Department of Education and the SC Broadcasters Association. The Town of Batesburg-Leesville also tested its weather sirens during this time.
The annual drill, which is held in the spring, is a way for students to learn simple precautions that could save lives. South Carolina typically faces its greatest threat of tornadoes during the spring months.
